Nights 2 & 3

Went great!

He woke up at 10:44 the 2nd night. We went 5 minutes before going in to him this time. By 11:12 he was sound asleep again. Up at 4:30 for a bottle and back to sleep until almost 9 the next morning!

Night 3 was even better! He woke up a couple of times and cried out just once, then found his binky and rolled over and went right back to sleep. (This means he is learning to soothe himself to sleep, something he has never been able to do before! I’m so excited for him!) He woke up around 2am and we let you whine and cry for about 5 minutes. I went in, gave him his binky, patted his butt and off to sleep he went! Woke again at 5:30 for a bottle, then back to sleep until 8:40!

So proud of my little guy!

I’m happy that he’s getting good sleep, finally, and I’ve gotten some of the best night’s sleeps that I’ve had since before I had him!

Night 1

It went much better than I thought it would! M went down for the night at 8:22. He woke up right on time at 10:12. And the sleep training began…

He whined a bit and then started to cry out once I didn’t immediately come and get him. We timed it…I waited 3 minutes before I went in. I soothed him for 1 minute. Patted his butt, rubbed his back, shushed him and sang our bedtime song. Hubby had to tell me my minute was up. He screamed the moment I left his side.

I sat in the living room for the longest 3 minutes of my life. I watched him on the monitor look around his crib and reach his arm through the bars…. he was looking for me, reaching for me.

It was at that moment my heart broke and I began to cry. Hubby said that wasn’t a very good start and I needed to toughen up. I handed him the monitor because I couldn’t watch my baby reach out for me anymore.

When I finally got through the 3 minutes I ran back in to comfort my baby. He quieted down each time I went in, and even though he wanted me to pick him up and I wouldn’t, he seemed reassured that I was there.

At 10:48 M was sound asleep. 36 minutes. That’s all it took. I was expecting HOURS, but he only cried for 36 minutes!

He slept until 4:00, at which time we repeated the process. He was wishy washy that time…..falling asleep then waking up crying again. Finally at 5:30 I gave him a bottle, but still did NOT pick him up! He was asleep before he was done and slept until 8:45 this morning!

Night 2 is on progress right now… Here’s hoping for another great night of sleep (or even better)!!!

Tonight’s the night…

We are starting sleep training tonight. For the last week we’ve established a very consistent bedtime routine: Bath, lotion and jammies, bedtime story, bottle and down. Tonight, we will not take him out of his crib, no matter how much he kicks and screams.

He’s been asleep in his crib for about 55 minutes now. When he does wake up we will leave him alone to cry for 3 minutes. After that I’ll go in to comfort him for 1 minute without picking him up.

This will continue until he goes back to sleep.

I foresee a long night ahead of us. My kid is barely 8 months old but he is already so strong willed and stubborn.

Wish us luck!

Good News!

So I bit the bullet and spent $49.95 on a recovery software so I could get my deleted photos back. I only got around 400 of the 800ish back (and I knew thats all I would get before I paid via a free preview) but to me it was so well worth the fifty bucks.

Just don’t tell my husband I actually paid that for it lol!

I have since made sure every photo I take from my phone is automatically backed up via the google photos app. I believe it is through picasa, not sure. I strongly encourage you all to figure out a way to get an auto backup on your phone (if you’re like me and take a ton of photos on it) as well! If you have an android phone the photos app will do an auto backup every time you take a photo, you just have to turn it on. A friend of mine mentioned she uses dropbox to backup her photos. Whatever you do, do something! Our pictures of our babies are too precious to lose and you never know when you will make an idiot mistake like me!

Good thing is I now have the recovery software for life should I ever need it again. I only wish I would’ve gone ahead and bought it that same day because in the last 5 days phone has already written over a lot of my photos, hence the reason I only got half of them back. Still so worth it!

Makes me SICK.

I’ve cried today. I’ve felt like throwing up today. I just want to kick my own ass for being such an idiot.

I took a video of M this morning. He’s doing this thing where I’ll raspberry at him and then he’ll do it right back and we go back and forth for a bit. It’s hilarious and adorable. He wasn’t cooperating so the video was a fail. My phone has been screaming at me that its running out of memory for a while so I deleted the video since it was just me making fart noises while M stared at me like I was an idiot.

Except I didn’t delete the video. I deleted the WHOLE FUCKING ALBUM. (excuse my language but FOR REAL.)

Over 800 photos in this album. GONE. And most of them are of my kid.

I spent most of my day scouring the internet hoping there was some way to recover them. Oh, there is. But it all involves some sort of shady software that cost a million dollars so I’m out of luck.

Its not a total loss of course. That album only had pics from May of this year until now. So everything taken before that is safe (and backed up now). And most of the really good pics of M have been uploaded to Facebook or Instagram so I can still get them. And let’s be honest, for every good pic of M in that album there were at least 10-20 blurry versions of the same photo because its impossible for a 6 month old to hold still and smile and pose on demand.

So did I lose 800 pictures? No. I lost maybe 70-80. Minus what was uploaded to social media.

Does it still hurt?? YES.

Is it the end of the world? No. But it sure felt like it this morning. And now I feel like a huge loser because my baby spent most of his day playing alone in the floor while I frantically searched google for answers when I could have been taking new pictures of his adorable face.

So let me be a lesson to you ladies. BACK UP YOUR SHIT.

I’m going to go cry myself to sleep now.

Baby Nugget – 7 Months

Well, kid, as of August 2nd you are 7 months old!

It wasn’t a very eventful month for us. After July 4th things slowed down a little bit. We mostly just chilled at the house. But you did go to the mall with mommy one day. You rode in your stroller and took in the sights and were a very good boy! You also got to sit up in the big boy seat of the shopping cart at Walmart! You loved it and mommy is now on the hunt for a shopping cart cover for you.

You are cutting your first tooth right now and it is NOT fun! We can see a little bit of white poking through your top gum. I’ll be glad when it’s here and I can have my happy baby back!

What are your stats and what does the doctor say?

We went to your 6 month check up on July 15th and you were 18lbs 13oz and 27.5 inches long! You are growing growing growing! You were 70th percentile for  weight and 75th percentile for height! You’ve got a pretty big head, too haha! Dr. Chris said your big head means you’re either going to be very smart or very stubborn…or both (which is what I’m banking on)! We had an impromptu doctor visit on July 31st because you’ve been very cranky and tugging at your ear. Dr. Chris said there was a HUGE amount of earwax in your ear, so much that he couldn’t see inside. So he cleaned your ear out and said everything looked good other than the massive amount of wax. At that visit you were already up to 19lbs 6oz! You are growing SO fast!

We also talked to Dr. Chris about your sleeping habits, which just seem to be getting worse. Dr. Chris suggested trying some sleep training. He gave us some literature on it and said it’s not for everyone, but that he and his wife did it with their daughter at 9 months old and wished they had done it sooner. Basically, we will put you bed drowsy but awake and let you learn to soothe yourself to sleep. Right now you depend very heavily on a bottle to soothe you, which wouldn’t be so bad except you are getting up several times a night and there is no reason you should need that many bottles at night. We let you cry for 5 minutes at a time, then mommy can go in to comfort you for 1 minute (without picking you up) and then we wait another 5 minutes and so on. I’m not sure if its something that I can do, listen to you cry, but we are at our wits end at nighttime and don’t know what else to try. Wish us luck!!!

What are you eating?

You are still eating Enfamil Infant formula. 7-8oz every 4 hours. You have baby food 1-2 times a day and like to snack on your Baby Mum-Mums (we call them Num Nums) or have a taste of whatever mommy and daddy are eating once in a while. We got you some snacks out of the baby aisle to try. You don’t care for the yogurt melts, I think they are too tangy, and you won’t even put the “baby cheetos” (Parent’s Choice Little Munchers) in your mouth.

When do you eat and sleep?

You wake up anytime between 6am and 8am. You have a bottle every 4 hours, which amounts to 4 bottle a day. Sometime you get cereal or fruit (baby food) in the morning, and you usually get baby food at lunch time. At dinner time you like to eat while mom and dad eat, so you usually get one of your Num Nums or something you can feed yourself. You’ve been getting up 1-2 times at night lately and a bottle is the only thing that will soothe you back to sleep now that you are cutting teeth. Thank goodness that is getting better!

What do your routines look like?

Same ole same ole! You have your feeding schedule throughout the day, and you usually take a morning nap and an afternoon nap. We play throughout the day and sometimes go to town to run errands. You have a bath every other day usually. At bedtime you get your overnight diaper on and jammies and daddy reads a story, then mommy gives you your bottle and puts you down for the night. You’ve only been staying in your crib for a couple hours at a time, and once you wake up it is a battle to get you back to sleep! I’m hoping once your teeth come in this will get better though!

What size clothes and diapers are you wearing?

6-9 months and 9 months clothes and size 3 diapers. You are getting big!

What are some things you love?

You love to eat and put anything you can in your mouth! You love to ride in the car, you get very excited anytime we put you in your carseat. You love your new toys that mommy’s friend from work brought you (her little boy outgrew them). You love being outside or looking out the window. You love our doggie, Jenny! She is a beagle and getting up there in age…at least 10 years old. I feel like I haven’t given her much attention since you came along, but now that its warmer we go out to see her often and you just giggle and laugh at her. We gave her a bath the other day and she laid on her back at your feet waiting for you to rub her belly haha! 🙂

What are some things you don’t love?

You don’t like having your picture made (at least professionally!). You don’t like having your nose wiped or when mommy sucks the snot out with the Nose Frida. You’ve had a bad runny nose since Tuesday and you can barely breath when you lay down at night. But after the past week of Saline Spray, Nose Frida, Boogie Wipes, and the cool mist humidifier, I think you are finally starting to get better! I just hope it hasn’t drained into your ears 😦

What can you do?

You can sit up on your own like a pro! You can say Da-da. You can stand while assisted. You are trying very hard to pull yourself up. You’ve almost figured out how to get up on your hands and knees into the crawl position, but you’re not quite there yet. You can reach for people to pick you up.

What are we looking forward to in the next month?

Before you turn 8 months old you will hopefully get that nasty tooth in that’s been bothering you and we will probably work on your sleep training at some point! Yikes!

6 Month Pictures

To say this photo shoot was a disaster would be a HUGE understatement. What can I say? Apparently my kid hates having his picture taken. At least professionally speaking.

We were originally scheduled for our 6 month shoot on July 1st (M was 6 months on July 2nd) but he still wasn’t sitting up too well on his own so we pushed our appointment out to July 17th. M was in a great mood all day long that day! Laughing and giggling and smiling and playing. He took his morning nap like a champ, cooperated when I gave him a  bath and got him dressed, and snoozed in the car on the way to the photography studio.

That’s when shit got real, y’all.

He pretty much started crying the moment I took him out of his car seat. He wasn’t having any of it. I walked him around the studio, bouncing him and soothing him until he finally got it together, and the moment I sat him down in front of the adorable lemonade stand she had set up for him, he lost it again. Cut to 15 minutes later, we’ve finally gotten him to stop crying, but he will not smile for anything. The photographer (who only shoots newborn – 1st birthday, so she’s awesome with babies!) and I were doing everything we could to get this kid to smile. We looked like idiots. And M just stared at us looking annoyed and completely disgusted by us.

When I say we didn’t get any smiles, I don’t mean we got one or two and we just had to live with it. I mean we got ZERO smiles. None. Nada. Zip.

My photographer suggested we reschedule for a few days later and try again. I mentioned my husband could usually get him to laugh pretty easily, so we set up an appointment on a day that he could come along as well.

Cut to this past Sunday, July 20th. Another disaster. BUT, he was a little more calm with daddy there (even though daddy was too embarrassed to make the faces and noises in front of the photographer that usually makes M laugh…ugh!) and we managed to get a couple little almost-sorta-smiles. And boy did he make us work for it!!!

So here they are, M’s 6 month pictures:

So, yeah… we got a few good ones. It wasn’t a total loss. But trust me when I say we really had to work for it!

I mean, most of the pictures look like this one…and I’m pretty sure he’s trying to give us the bird in it, too.

Baby Nugget – 6 Months!

My handsome boy, you are 6 MONTHS OLD!

I can’t believe you are already half a year old already! It doesn’t seem possible! You are growing so much everyday, I barely remember that tiny newborn we brought home on that cold bitter January day.  It will be time to start planning a birthday party very soon!

It’s been a busy month! Since we are a little late on updating (you turned 6 months on July 2nd) we’ll include your first 4th of July in this update. You loved the fireworks! We watched the big show our town puts on from our driveway Thursday night and you couldn’t take your eyes off the sky! It was way past your bedtime, so you fell asleep on daddy’s shoulder about halfway through the show, but you enjoyed watching more on Friday night when we celebrated July 4th at Aunt S’s house!

You finally went swimming for the first time this last week as well! You weren’t too sure about the water at first, and it was still a little cold (it’s been a rainy and cool this summer, which is SO unusual for our neck of the woods! the water just isn’t warm yet!) but you warmed up to it quick and had a good time I think! You’re going to be my little Water Baby!

When we went swimming on July 4th you were so relaxed by the water you fell asleep!

What are your stats and what does the doctor say?

We go for your 6 month checkup on July 15. Until then I’m guessing that you are around 17ish or more pounds! I swear you’ve hit a growth spurt this week…. You all of sudden look so much bigger and are definitely getting much heavier!

What are you eating?

You are still eating Enfamil Infant, 7oz every 4 hours during the day. Lately you’ve been getting up once at night for a snack as well. You get baby food for lunch….so far you’ve tried green beans, carrots, peas, apples, bananas, and squash! The only one you didn’t care for was peas, but you still ate them.

When do you eat and sleep?

You get up between 6 and 7 every morning, but sometimes you sleep until 8, and you get a bottle every 4 hours. At lunch time you get baby food, then a half hour or so later you get your bottle. You take a morning nap and an afternoon, usually about an hour long, sometimes 2 hours in the afternoon, and lately you’ve been taking another snooze before bedtime.  Between 8 and 9pm you get your bedtime bottle and go to sleep for the night.

What do your routines look like?

Eat, play, sleep! Our routines stay pretty much the same. You eat every 4 hours, we play a while after you eat. Once you’re worn out you get a nap. Repeat for the afternoon. We’ve been getting out of the house a little more lately to run errands or grocery shop or visit family members. You like to get out 🙂 You get a bath every other day usually. Our bedtime routine is pretty simple these days. We change you into your overnight diaper and bedtime clothes, you get a bottle, and are usually asleep by the time the bottle is done. Mommy sings to you while you eat and then I take you into our bedroom and put you down in the crib. After a few hours you usually wake up and want in bed with Mommy. If you don’t get up for a late night snack, you usually want to eat by 4 or 5am. You go right back to sleep after that bottle and we sleep a few more hours snuggled in bed. (If its a day mommy has to work you stay in bed with daddy).

What size clothes and diapers are you wearing?

Some of your 3-6 month clothes still fit well, but some of it is getting snug this week! (Like I said, I’m pretty sure you grew overnight sometime this week!) 6 month clothes fit you great. You’ve got some pretty serious thunder thighs going on so some shorts are a little snug every if that fit great in the waist lol. You are wearing Size 3 diapers now and they fit SO much better than the 2’s!

What are some things you love?

You love to eat! You want everything Mommy is eating now! You love your Jumperoo. You LOVE your Sophie. You love to be outside and you love riding in the car and going to new places. You love sitting upright in your Sit Me Up Seat. You love playing with and chewing on a cool washrag. You absolutely LOVE your daddy! When he comes home from work all he does is look at you and you are all smiles and giggles and practically jumping out of my arms to get to him! But at nighttime, only Mommy will do 😉

What are some things you don’t love?

You don’t like being left alone. You don’t like being tired or sleepy. You don’t like having your clothes changed and you don’t like when mommy cleans your face with a washrag (but you like to chew on it when I’m done). You don’t like getting lotioned up anymore either. You don’t like daddy to get you if you wake up at night, you only want mommy.

What can you do?

You can sit up on your own…kind of! You do great until you go to look around or up or behind you, then you fall over. You are still wobbly, but we are working on it. You’ll have it mastered in no time, just like everything else.  You’ve been jabbering for a while now, but I can hear some da-da-da’s and ba-ba-ba’s sometimes. Hopefully there will be some ma-ma-ma’s in there soon 😉

Who has visited and who has watched you?

No new sitters, still primarily Aunt S and Grandma on Friday’s when Mommy and Daddy both work. I took you to see the girls at work again a couple weeks ago…they love you! I took you to see your Great Grandmas also (one on my dad’s side and one on my mom’s side). Mommy’s best friend from high school (and elementary school) finally came to visit with her little girl who is 6. They both loved you as well! But of course, everyone does 😉

What are we looking forward to in the next month?

Before you turn 7 months old you will master sitting up on your own! You’ll have your next set of shots (yuck!) and it’ll be your last until your 1 year checkup! You’ll have your 6 month pictures taken (we’ve got to go shopping!). And of course you will keep chowing down on new foods!

Help me name my blog!!!

Ok. I’ve been thinking of starting a second blog. One that I will share with my family and friends. I’ve tried hard to keep this blog somewhat anonymous (and sometimes didn’t do so well) but I’d like to be able to share updates on M with the people in my life. This blog is very important to me, and I will continue to update here, but at times it was messy, and ugly, and possibly offensive to some and its just not something I’m ready to share with the people in my real life.

Sooo…. I need help naming this new blog! It needs to have something to do with being a new mommy. I’d like to have a clever name. And possibly have some sort of reference to being a mother after infertility.  I’m open to all your suggestions!

Aaaannnd GO!

Baby Nugget – 5 Months

Oh my! My precious little man, you are 5 MONTHS OLD!

This is way overdue! Sweet boy, you are growing so fast and have done so much this month! You keep mommy on her toes!

What are your stats and what does the doctor say?

At your 4 month checkup (which was a little late…about 2 1/2 weeks ago) you weighed in at 15lbs 14oz! I was surprised because I was sure you were well over 16lbs! You were 25 1/4in long. 60th percentile in weight and 50th percentile in height. Dr. Chris said you were a perfectly average baby (in a good way!). He was impressed with all the milestones you’re hitting and said that you were very strong when he let you grab his fingers and you pulled yourself up to a sitting position!  He said you were right on track and we could start solids whenever we felt ready.

What are you eating?

You are still eating Enfamil Infant formula, about 6.5oz every 3-4 hours during the day, sometimes even longer. We started baby food and you love it! So far we’ve tried carrots, green beans, peas, and bananas (you get to try apples today!). You’re favorites so far are carrots and bananas. You like green beans alright, but you don’t seem too crazy about peas, even though you ate them all up.

When do you eat and sleep?

You take a bottle about every 3-4 hours during the day. At lunchtime (usually between 11am-12pm) you get baby food. Right now you think baby food is just an appetizer, so about 30 minutes to an hour later you get a full bottle. You usually take a morning nap and an afternoon nap with a little snooze in the evening before bedtime. Sometimes you take long naps, sometimes you just catnap. You take a big bottle (about 7oz) at bedtime, which is usually about 8:00pm, sometimes even 7:30pm, and you usually sleep until about 6 or 7 the next morning, but here lately you sometimes wake up for a snack around 3 or 4am.

What do your routines look like?

Eat, play, sleep! When we get up for the day and you’ve had breakfast you play play play until you sometimes take a morning snooze. You like to have mommy or daddy close these days, so there’s no more lying you down on your playmat so I can get things done! At lunchtime you have baby food, then your bottle, and it back to playing again until you’re wore out and need a nap! Usually you sleep better during your afternoon nap, but its hit and miss. Once you’re up again its time to eat and then play some more. Sometimes we go run errands, or you sit up in your Sit Me Up seat and watch mommy clean house. Every other day you get a bath at some point during the day.  You start winding down in the evenings and sometimes need a little snooze before bedtime. At around 7:30 or 8pm we get you into your bedtime clothes and you get your bedtime bottle. Mommy usually sings to you while you eat and by the end of the bottle you’re konked out! You go down for the night into your crib (which we just moved into our bedroom) and you sleep there for a few hours ON YOUR BELLY. You usually wake up at some point in the night and spend the rest of the night snuggling with mommy in the big bed. In the morning we start all over!

What size clothes and diapers are you wearing?

You fit comfortably into 3-6 months clothes and 6 months. You can still wear a few of your 3 month onsesies, but I broke down and put most of them away the other day (you’re growing so fast!). You are still in size 2 diapers, but as soon as these are gone and we order another box you’ll be in size 3.

What are some things you love?

You love to eat baby food! You love attention 24/7! You love snuggling with mommy or daddy at night. You love to sit up in your sit me up chair or bouncy seat and I know you can’t wait until you can sit up on your own! You love Sophie the Giraffe! Daddy broke down and bought it, even though I said it was way too expensive for a glorified chew toy, but turns out it was a great investment for our teething boy! You love to look out the window outside. I’ll prop you up on the back of the couch so you can see out the window and you are entertained for a while! You like your Jumperoo, but usually only when mommy or daddy are sitting close. Oh, and you love Walmart! We took you for the first time the other day and you just laughed and cooed and giggled the entire time!!!

What are some things you don’t love?

You don’t like to be tired or hungry. You don’t like teething. You absolutely don’t like lying down anymore. You hate laying down to play and you don’t like to lay on your playmat much anymore. You are just so ready to sit up like a big boy, you are totally over laying down. You don’t like being left alone, even for a few seconds. Using the bathroom or taking a shower is getting difficult these days!

What can you do?

You can roll from back to front AND front to back! Sometimes you get going and roll across the room! You can eat from a spoon like a pro and sometimes even steal it from me to feed yourself! You can sit up by yourself for just a few second before you topple over, but we are practicing!

Who has visited and watched you?

No one new has watched you. You get weekly visits from various family members. You went to your cousin’s 1st birthday party and got to see a lot of people, although you weren’t too keen on meeting the birthday girl…you cried! You also went to Baby G’s 1st birthday party and met lots of new people! You also cried when you met the birthday girl at that party lol! I’m not sure if you don’t like other babies or girls or just birthday parties in general 😉

What are we looking forward to in the next month?

Before you turn 6 months you’ll try some more baby food! You’ll go swimming for the first time. You’ll practice sitting up on your own. And you’ll celebrate your daddy’s first Father’s day!
