Baby Nugget – 28 & 29 Weeks

I’ve been a bad bad blogger lately.  Here’s my updates, better late than never!

Week 28:

Baby is the size of an eggplant!  At week 28, he is putting on layers
of fat and still weighs somewhere between 1.5 and 2.2 pounds.  He measures
around 13.6 to 14.8 inches.  His skin has a smoother and less wrinkled
appearance too.  And his lungs are mature enough that he could probably breathe
on his own if he were born prematurely.  Plus, his eyes, which can now open and
close, can sense changes to light as well.  The groundwork for his vision has been
laid, but baby’s sight will actually continue to develop during infancy after
he’s born.  Still, those blinking peepers are something to get excited
over!

Week 29:

Baby is the size of an acorn squash!  At week 29, baby is getting plumper.
Begin to prepare yourself for the absolute cuteness you’ll soon experience
every day!  Right now, he measures about 15.2 to 16.7 inches long and weighs
about 2.5 to 3.8 pounds.  He still has a long way to go, and may even triple
his weight before birth.

How far along? 29 weeks (and 3 days)

Total weight gain: I still haven’t weighed myself, but I’m going to guess somewhere between +5-7lbs.  I’m beginning to feel huge.

Maternity clothes? I have some but haven’t really worn them yet. I wear scrubs during the week and have been in the habit of not really going anywhere on the weekends.  I’m still in my same scrubs at work, although they are beginning to get just a little snug. Ok, a lot snug.

Stretch marks?  No new ones.

Sleep:  Sleeping pretty well besides the frequent trips to the bathroom that seem to be getting worse.

Best moment this week: Finally got our rocker/glider (which is a LONG story). But it’s still in the box right now.

Miss Anything? Sleeping on my stomach.

Movement:  Oh, yes :) He has been a wiggle worm the last few days!

Food cravings:   Little Debbie Cosmic Brownies. I still want a big bag of movie theater popcorn. Someone take me to the movies!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Morning sickness is back. Nothing in particular triggers it. If I take a Pepcid before I go to bed that seems to help some.

Gender prediction: Sweet baby boy!

Labor Signs:  No, thank you.

Symptoms:  Fatigue, bloat/gas, VERY frequent urination. Occasional round ligament pain. Sciatic nerve pain. Heartburn and indigestion. Shortness of breath. Morning sickness. Dizziness/lightheadedness. Pretty sure I’ve had a few Braxton Hicks this past week.

Belly Button in or out?  In, but starting to look….funny.

Wedding rings on or off?  They fit.

Happy or Moody most of the time:  Pretty happy! And tired.

Looking forward to:  Baby Shower November 2nd 🙂

Next appointment:  October 22nd.  I’m be 30 weeks! Yikes!

Baby Nugget – 27 Weeks!

Baby is the size of a rutabaga!  Your baby is now 13.6 to 14.8 inches long and around 2 pounds!  And he’s not just getting larger, he’s becoming a complex little human being.  His brainstem, which controls most of his vital functions (such as heart rate, breathing, and blood pressure) is nearly fully developed by this point, and his cerebral cortex (which forms consciousness and allows us to think, feel, and perform voluntary actions) is growing more and more, maturing and becoming more complex during the last trimester.  So don’t be surprised by baby’s karate kicks in you belly!  He can stretch and make grasping motions now too!

How far along? 27 weeks…Hello, 3rd Trimester!

Total weight gain: I haven’t weighed this week, but I’m going to guess somewhere between +3-5lbs.  I’m beginning to feel huge.

Best moment this week: Passed my 1 hour glucose test!

Miss Anything? Sleeping on my stomach.

Movement:  Oh, yes :)

Food cravings:   Ice cold milk. Movie theater popcorn. I’ve eaten a couple bags of those new Snickers Bites lately, too.

Belly Button in or out?  In.

Looking forward to:  Have a hair appointment next Saturday…will probably be my last one before baby gets here!

Next appointment:  October 22nd.  I’m be 30 weeks! Yikes!

Baby Nugget – 24 Weeks!

Things are trucking right along!  It’s so crazy how fast the weeks seem to be going by.  Part of that is the fact that the last few weeks have been absolutely CRAZY at work.  I’m so exhausted by the time I get home I eat, shower, and jump in bed.  No joke, I was in bed at 7:00 Thursday night.  I was SO tired.  I was at work from 6:30am until almost 5pm, and I stood on my feet for 7 1/2 hours straight in surgery that morning.  I’m not sure how much longer my body or my baby are going to let me have days like that.

In other news, Morning Sickness has reared it’s ugly head again!  I thought I was well past this, but the last couple weeks I’ve been getting sick after waking up in the morning.  Thank goodness it only seems to be morning sickness and doesn’t last all throughout the day like it did earlier in my pregnancy.  Still, I’d rather it go away again!

Alright, here we go with the usual update!

Baby is the size of a cantaloupe!  At week 24, your baby’s see-through skin is gradually becoming less translucent and is starting to look more opaque, like your own, but with the beauty of a new pink glow, thanks to the small capillaries that have recently formed.  Plus, he’s getting heavier and now weighs 12.7 to 20.8 ounces.  He’s 10.5 to 11.8 inches long now, too — nearly an entire foot!  There’s a lot happening inside baby as well, and while his lungs have developed, they couldn’t work outside of the womb yet.  But the fact that his lungs are fully formed means that he’s closer to being ready to survive (and thrive!) in the outside world!

How far along? 24 weeks (This is considered Viability Day, or Vday, meaning that most medical
professionals would attempt to use intensive medical intervention to save the
life of the baby if it is born on this day or after.  A nice milestone, but
baby boy needs to keep on cookin’!)

Total weight gain: +2lbs according to my scale this morning! Whoa! When did that happen?!

Maternity clothes? Still trying to find the right ones…

Stretch marks?  No new ones.

Sleep:  Can’t get enough.

Best moment this week: I’ve been too tired for anything exciting to happen.

Miss Anything? Sleep.

Movement:  He has been moving A LOT this week! I love it!

Food cravings:  Milk. Ice cold milk. Movie theater popcorn.

Anything making you queasy or sick: I’ve thrown up two mornings this week. Not a happy pregnant lady. Go away morning sickness!

Gender prediction: Sweet baby boy!

Labor Signs:  No, thank you.

Symptoms:  Fatigue, bloat/gas, VERY frequent urination. Occasional round ligament pain. Sciatic nerve pain. Heartburn and indigestion. Shortness of breath. Morning sickness.

Belly Button in or out?  In.

Wedding rings on or off?  They fit.

Happy or Moody most of the time:  Pretty happy! And tired.

Looking forward to:  Fall! The weather is beginning to cool down (still in the 80’s but that’s a cool down where I live haha) and I can’t wait for Fall to be in full swing!

Next appointment:  September 24th – glucose test. Yuck!

Baby Nugget – 23 Weeks!

Quick update today! The weeks seem to be flying by now 🙂

Baby is the size of a grapefruit!  {I have given up on understanding the
fruit comparison at this point…}  At 23 weeks, your baby is getting bigger.
He’s about 10.5 to 11.8 inches long and weighs 12.7 to 20.8 ounces.  Plus,
he’s getting cuter!  Ears start to develop and his face and eyes are forming.
{I think they mean he is developing fat to fill out his skin…}  He’s
more aware, too, and is listening to your voice and your heartbeat, as well as
loud sounds, such as cars honking and dogs barking.  You may also feel your baby
move when he hears something familiar.

How far along? 23 weeks

Total weight gain: -1lb last I checked. Starting to gain a little!

Maternity clothes? Still trying to find the right ones…

Stretch marks?  No new ones.

Sleep:  Can’t get enough.

Best moment this week: I’ve been too tired for anything exciting to happen.

Miss Anything? Sleeping through the night. Not being nonstop exhausted.

Movement:  Yes, and a lot of it. Baby boy is most active around 9-9:30 at night, right about the time I’m winding down and ready to go to sleep!

Food cravings:  Milk. Ice cold milk. Movie theater popcorn.

Anything making you queasy or sick: I’ve thrown up two mornings this week. Not a happy pregnant lady. Go away morning sickness!

Gender prediction: Sweet baby boy!

Looking forward to:  Ummm….coffee date with my pal, M 🙂

Next appointment:  September 24th – glucose test. Yuck!

Baby Nugget – 16 Weeks!

I can’t even tell you how crazy it is to me that I’m 16 weeks pregnant.  That’s 4 months.  That’s nuts, right?!

Baby is the size of an avocado! {And now I want Mexican food!}  Baby’s about 4.6 inches long and weighs about 3.5 ounces, and he’s big enough that your doctor may be able to hear his heartbeat.  Now he’s growing hair, lashes, and eyebrows.  He’s also listening to your voice, thanks to tiny bones forming in his ears.

How far along? 16 weeks

Total weight gain: I haven’t even weighed this week!

Maternity clothes? Not Yet. I haven’t gained any weight, really.  And I was overweight to begin with when I got pregnant, and I carry all my weight in my belly area… So I’m not sure when the “bump” is going to start getting obvious…it might be a while.  I don’t wear a lot of “normal” clothes anyway since I wear scrubs to work. I may buy some maternity jeans here soon and see how it goes…they might round me out a little! Ha!

Stretch marks?  No new ones. Ha!

Sleep:  Restless at night.  Up at the very least once every night to pee. I usually catch up on sleep on the weekends…last Friday night I slept for 12 and a half hours!

Best moment this week:  Nothing big this week I guess.

Miss Anything? Sleeping through the night.

Movement:  Nope.  How can I have something the size of an avocado moving around inside of me and NOT feel it?!

Food cravings: Greasy cheeseburgers! Yum! And Chinese food!

Anything making you queasy or sick: Certain smells and drainage in my throat.

Gender prediction: So, I had a dream the other night that we went in for our gender ultrasound and it was a GIRL! But…Rick from Pawn Stars {ever watch that show?} was the one giving me my ultrasound, so I’m not exactly sure how reliable it was! Hahaha!  We will find out soon enough!

Labor Signs:  No, thank you.

Symptoms:  Fatigue, sore nipples this week, mild nausea, bloat/gas, super sense of smell. Occasional round ligament pain. Sciatic nerve pain! Heartburn and indigestion!

Belly Button in or out?  In.  I have a pretty chunky belly, so I imagine it’ll stay.

Wedding rings on or off?  They fit.

Happy or Moody most of the time:  Pretty happy!

Looking forward to:  Gender scan on Tuesday!!!!! Eek!

Next appointment:  July 23rd, 17 week gender scan! Is Baby Nugget a girl or boy?!

First OB Appointment, Paranoia, & Baby Nugget – 11 Weeks!

Whew.  A lot to catch up on.  Let’s get started.

My first OB appointment with Dr. L was on Tuesday.  It was good, if not uneventful compared to my trips to the RE.  Unfortunately its a pretty busy office and you can usually expect a long wait, whereas at the RE’s we were usually always called back within 5 minutes, and definitely no longer than 10.  Hubby doesn’t do well waiting for long periods of time.  He’s almost like a small child in that way.  It’s a little annoying, and by the end of our appointment I was threatening that he was never coming with me again.

The first thing we did was pay our deposit and set up our payment schedule for the next five months.  Holy moly, Baby Nugget’s payments are more than my car payment!  Now, all this is based on our due date, which is now January 1st.  I’ve already met my deductible for the year.  But if we deliver on January 1st or later, I have to pay next year’s deductible.  So basically if we can have this baby on December 31st, we’ll save $1500.  I mean, who knows what will happen between now and then…we may go early, we may go late.

I was finally called back and they weighed me, took my blood pressure, made me pee in a cup, and then made me undress completely.  Apparently I’m a little overdue for my pap, so they decided I could go ahead and do that also since I was there.  Yay.  I just LOVE surprise pap smears!  They also gave us a goodie bag full of magazines, diapers, formula, breast milk containers, and a trimester by trimester planner.

When Dr. L came in he was pretty excited.  He almost couldn’t believe that I had gotten pregnant so fast.  We talked a little bit about what meds and things Dr. P had me on (I feel like Follistim was the missing piece for me), and I told him that we were lucky after our 1st IUI.  He gave me a due date of January 1st based on my last period and IUI date, which could change depending on how Baby Nugget is measuring down the road.  After my pap, he told me not to freak out but my cervix may bleed just a little and that it was completely normal.  To which I replied, “Are you trying to give me a heart attack?!”

After that he got out the Doppler so we could check Baby Nugget’s heart beat.  After looking for a while, I was beginning to get nervous.  It’s hard to find on the Doppler sometimes when you’re so early, and if the baby is laying a certain way also.  I carry most of my weight in my belly, so I wondered if the extra belly fat was making it hard to find as well, although Dr. L would never say so.  Regardless, we couldn’t find it with the Doppler and I was starting to get very nervous.  Dr. L was sure everything was fine, but said he wasn’t about to send me out of there for a month without me know that the baby was ok.  So we were told to sit tight and wait for the ultrasound tech to come get us.

Heather showed up to get us.  She’s done plenty of ultrasounds on me in the past, and was excited to hear that things were going so well for us.  She took us to a room that I’ve never been to with a pretty old school ultrasound machine setup.  She told me to go ahead and get on the bed.  I looked around.  There was nowhere for me to undress like the regular ultrasound rooms they have.  She just stood there waiting for me, and hubby was sitting in the corner.   There was a stack of sheets on a table to cover your bottom half with so I guessed she just wanted me to go ahead.  I mean, she’s seen me naked plenty when she was probing me in the other ultrasound room.   So I kick off my shoes and have my pants halfway down to my knees before she says, “Oh, no, we’re just going to do it on your belly.”   Uhh…oh, ok.  Let me just put my pants back on.   A little embarrassing?  Yes.  Comical?  Of course.  I apologized for the strip tease and we all laughed as I jumped on the table, fully clothed.

She explained that this was the old, OLD ultrasound machine that they used when they are backed up.  Tuesday’s are pregnant lady days, so they were pretty busy.  We were just checking for the heartbeat, so this machine would do.  The picture was super fuzzy, especially since my bladder wasn’t full like its supposed to be for abdominal ultrasounds.   But we could make out a fuzzy little Nugget wiggling around on the screen.   As usual, Nugget was moving those arms and legs like crazy, which could have made it hard to find on the Doppler as well.   We couldn’t hear the heartbeat on this machine, but we could see it.  She told me it was 146bpm.  I’m not sure if she had to count that or if the ghetto machine told her that.  I  was a tiny bit concerned that it was 178 the week before and now it was 146.  She told me it was completely normal.  The heartbeat starts out a little low, then peaks around weeks 8-10, getting up to sometimes the 180’s, then begins to come down a little bit.  Anything between 120 and 160 is normal, and she assured me it was a perfectly healthy heartbeat.  Of course, I’m always paranoid, so…

Dr. L said he would see me back in a month.  Like any other normal pregnant woman.  It feels kinda nice to be on a normal schedule, but at the same time my weekly checkups helped keep me sane.  How can I go 4 weeks without seeing Nugget or hearing it’s heartbeat?  At one point the worry had subsided a little.  Now it’s back full force.

An example of my paranoia:

Dr. L asked me if the morning sickness was going away, to which a replied a very enthusiastic NO.  I told him Dr. P was a little stingy with the Zofran, so Dr. L gave me another script for some, saying that it was perfectly safe to take and to take it whenever I needed it.  So I’ve been a little more generous with the Zofran this week.  And it really does make me feel better.  Much better.  But when I’m not feeling sick, its makes me a little nervous.  Does that mean something is wrong with Baby Nugget?  As long as I’m sick I know Baby Nugget is kicking around in there.  Stupid logic, I know.  I don’t know what I’m going to do when the morning {all day} sickness finally goes away.

I’ve thought about buying a fetal Doppler to have at home.  But then I’m afraid that I won’t be able to find the heartbeat and then I’ll be an even bigger basketcase than I already am.  I’ve read that they are pretty tricky to use and a lot of women don’t have much luck with them.  Does anyone have one/ever used one?  What kind or brand do you recommend?

Ok, let’s get on with this Nugget update.  It’s a little late this week, but better late than never!

Baby is the size of a lime!  Your fetus is about 1.6 inches long, and she’s got about a 1:1 head-to-body ratio.  She now weighs in at about .25 ounces.  By week 11, her tooth buds, hair follicles, and nail beds are forming.  Her skin is see-through, but she’s on her way to looking more like a baby.  Her fingers and toes aren’t webbed any more, and she’s moving fluidly and gracefully in there, even through you can’t feel it.

How far along? 11 weeks

Total weight gain:  -5lbs as of earlier this week.  They may have changed since I pigged out on Olive Garden last night. Thank you, Zofran!

Maternity clothes? Nope.

Stretch marks?  No new ones. Ha!

Sleep:  I haven’t been sleeping well this week.  But I want to!

Best moment this week:  First OB appointment and being treated like a regular pregnant woman.

Miss Anything? Nah.

Movement:  Not for a long while I imagine.

Food cravings: I’d been craving Olive Garden salad and breadsticks and finally got it last night!

Anything making you queasy or sick: If I don’t eat for a while or let myself get too hungry.  Smells seems to a big trigger this week.  A stinky patient at work made me hurl Thursday.

Gender prediction: No strong feelings one way or the other. As long as its healthy, I’m happy!

Labor Signs:  No, thank you.

Symptoms:  Fatigue, sore boobs, morning sickness/afternoon sickness/evening sickness….basically ALL DAY SICKNESS, bloat, and most things smell TERRIBLE.

Belly Button in or out?  In.  I have a pretty chunky belly, so I imagine it’ll stay.

Wedding rings on or off?  They fit.

Happy or Moody most of the time:  I am happy and queasy!

Looking forward to:  Being able to announce our big news.  Next week may be the week for the girls at work.

Next appointment:  July 9th.  Should be almost 15 weeks!

Baby Nugget – 10 Weeks

TEN WEEKS!!!!!  Oh. Em. Gee.

A lot of things have happened this week.  Some good, some bad.  Some that I should classify as good, but…let’s just say I’m having a hard time.  We won’t be covering all that in this post.  Expect  a nice juicy post this weekend, though!

Monday was my 3rd {and final!} ultrasound with the RE.  Dr. P got Mr. Wand out and started poking around and immediately let us know how happy he was with how Baby Nugget is progressing.  He pointed out the spinal cord, which was the main development he was looking for this week. {My baby has a spinal cord! How cool is that?!}  Then we heard that beautiful heartbeat again….178bpm this time!  Strong as ever!  Then Dr. P said, “Ok, now let’s take some fun pictures,” and began poking and prodding again.  What happened next was the absolute most AMAZING thing that I have ever seen.  EVER.  It moved.  My baby moved.  It’s little stubby arms and legs were flailing around like crazy, and we could see it, clear as day, on the screen.  There are just no words.  But there were tears.  Pretty awesome day.

After that Dr. P informed that he was done with me.  There’s no more for him to do, so he asked, “Who’s going to deliver the baby?”  Um…what?  It took me a moment to answer.  Because while I know the answer, I didn’t fully comprehend the question.  I’ve never thought about delivering a baby.  I’ve never thought about anything past today.  All I’ve ever focused on is keeping this baby alive, today.  I haven’t even let myself dream of the day that I actually deliver the baby.  But as of now, its looks like we are well on our way to a January delivery.  And while I’m always a little paranoid, I’m absolutely elated.

So I gave Dr. P Dr. L’s name, and he smiled and complimented our choice.  He told us congratulations again and told me to make sure we keep them all updated.  Then Hubby thanked the doc, and said, “We may be back for another one.”  After signed my release papers so they could send my records to Dr. L, we walked out of the RE’s office and made the 2 hour drive for the last time.  It’s a little bittersweet.

So I called to make my first OB appointment, which is set for Tuesday the 11th.  The girl at the front desk was an idiot {and obviously new} and took forever to pull up my name in the computer, let alone make the stupid appointment.  The very next day I had a voicemail from Dr. L’s office when I went to lunch.  It was Diane, one of Dr. L’s nurses.  She said, “Hey girl, I don’t need anything. I just got your records from Tulsa and just wanted to tell you congratulations and we’re all excited to see you Tuesday!”   And that was it.  How cool is that?  I mean, I kid around sometimes, and I like to say that I’m a “special” patient at that office.  And its true, pretty much everyone there knows me because I’ve been so often in the last 2 1/2 years.  But its pretty amazing to hear that they’re all still rooting for me and haven’t forgotten about me since I moved on to the RE.  I might have an unhealthy relationship with my OB’s office…. haha!

Ok, let’s get on with this update!

Baby is the size of a prune!  Now, he’s about 1.2 inches long and weighs about .14 ounces.  His body length will almost double in the next three weeks.  At week 10, baby has working arm joints, and his cartilage and bones are forming.  His vital organs are fully developed, and they’re starting to function.  His fingernails and hair are starting to appear too.  Can you believe it?!

How far along?  10 weeks

Total weight gain:  -4lbs.  Again, not trying but the morning sickness is taking its toll!

Maternity clothes? Nope.  But love me some yoga pants!

Stretch marks?  No new ones. Ha!

Sleep:  Can’t get enough of it!  I’ve been a little restless at night this week.  I wake up really hot and have to turn the AC down to frostbite level.

Best moment this week:  Seeing my baby MOVE on the ultrasound!

Miss Anything? Energy.

Movement:  Not for a long while I imagine.

Food cravings:  Peach Crush Soda. I’ve been wanting some ice cream this week, but still haven’t got any.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  Anything and everything.  Riding in the car for long periods of time.  If something is moving a lot on the TV screen.  The smell of almost anything cooking.

Gender prediction: No strong feelings one way or the other. As long as its healthy, I’m happy!

Labor Signs:  No, thank you.

Symptoms:  Fatigue, sore boobs, morning sickness/afternoon sickness/evening sickness….basically ALL DAY SICKNESS, bloat, occasional lightheadedness, and most things smell TERRIBLE.  Constipation vs. Diarrhea…my body can’t make up its mind! Sorry, TMI!

Belly Button in or out?  In.  I have a pretty chunky belly, so I imagine it’ll stay.

Wedding rings on or off?  They fit.

Happy or Moody most of the time:  I am happy and queasy!

Looking forward to:  My first OB appointment!

Baby Nugget – 9 Weeks

Holy cow.  NINE WEEKS?!  I have so, SO far to go, but it still seems like I’ve come a long way!  I’ve noticed its getting easier to be happy and excited about everything.  The paranoia is still there, of course.  I still check the toilet paper every time I use the restroom.  But I’m getting excited.  I’m excited to be getting closer to a time when we can tell people.  I’m just excited, in general I guess.  Paranoid but excited.  Ok, on with the 9 week update!

Baby is the size of a medium green olive!  She’s gaining steam.  At week nine, your fetus measures around .09 inches and weighs about .07 ounces.  She’s also developing more distinct facial features.  And her heartbeat is getting stronger!  Also, baby is now a fetus!  Baby was considered an embryo — but now she’s a fetus!  During the embryonic period, cells begin to take on different functions.  The brain, heart, lungs, internal organs, and arms and legs begin to form.  Once baby is a fetus, it’s more about growth and development to prep for life on the outside.  Happy graduation day baby!

How far along?  9 weeks

Total weight gain:  Not sure this week.  I forgot to weigh this morning, and I don’t like to weigh in the afternoon.  I may edit if I can remember to weigh tomorrow morning!

Maternity clothes? Nope.  But love me some yoga pants!

Stretch marks?  No new ones. Ha!

Sleep:  Can’t get enough of it!  I’ve been a little restless at night this week.  I wake up really hot and have to turn the AC down to frostbite level.

Best moment this week:  Nothing special this week.  Had a great lazy 3 day weekend with the hubs.

Miss Anything? Not really.

Movement:  Not for a long while I imagine.

Food cravings:  Peach Crush Soda.  There’s a 12 pack in my fridge right now.  Its caffeine free, but its pretty packed with sugar…but its SO good!

Here’s a new one… Tuesday my hand started hurting out of the blue from my thumb down to my wrist.  It was weird, and it didn’t subside.  So I did a little googling, thinking it was impossible for me to have a sudden case of carpal tunnel.  What I found was tendonitis, the description matched my symptoms perfectly.  What I also found, but wasn’t looking for, was that it was common to appear during pregnancy.  What?! I never would’ve linked the two together if google hadn’t told me it was true.  So I’ve been doing hot/cold compresses and wrapping my hand at night to stabilize my thumb and that seems to be helping a little.  So there’s my new weird symptom for the week!

Belly Button in or out?  In.  I have a pretty chunky belly, so I imagine it’ll stay.

Wedding rings on or off?  They fit.

Happy or Moody most of the time:  I am happy, and starting to get excited!

Looking forward to:  Our next ultrasound on the 3rd!

Baby Nugget – 8 Weeks

Time to update I guess!  Hubby and I traveled the 2 hours to the RE yesterday for my second ultrasound.  I was feeling a little skiddish about it because I had a tiny scare the night before.  {TMI Time!!!}  I had a weird mucus-y discharge thing happening, and for a moment it felt like I might have been bleeding.  You know the feeling.  When I went to the bathroom it was just clearish mucus type stuff, but it still scared me because I was sure it was leading the way for something else.  Luckily, Dr. P assured me it was perfectly normal and due to my increased hormones and to expect more of it throughout the pregnancy.  As long as its normal, I’m ok with that!  Baby Nugget was looking good on the ultrasound, nearly doubling in size since last week when we saw it.  We should have been measuring 7w6d, but only measured 7w4d.  Dr. P again was not concerned.  He said at this early stage with measuring, the tiniest bit off could result in a days difference, and you have to take things into consideration like the angle and view and basic human error.  So he’s not worried, so I’m not worried.  Heartbeat was thumping along at 166bpm and so far everything is looking good!  We go back on June 3rd for another ultrasound and it can’t get here soon enough!  Ok, let’s get on with my week 8 update!

Baby is the size of a raspberry!  Now he weighs in (yay!) at about .04 ounces and measures about .63 inches.  This week, he’s growing about a millimeter each day.  You can’t feel it yet, but by eight weeks, your baby is moving those arms and legs like crazy!  Here’s a fun fact:  His taste buds are now forming.

How far along?  8 weeks

Total weight gain:  -2 lbs  {I’m not trying to lose weight at all right now…I’m chalking this up to morning sickness and loss of appetite!}

Maternity clothes? Nope.  Although I’m glad I wear scrubs everyday.  Yoga pants are my favorite things to wear at home!

Stretch marks?  No new ones. Ha!

Sleep:  Can’t get enough of it!

Best moment this week:  Getting to see Baby Nugget on the ultrasound again and hear that sweet heartbeat!  And also, I passed my certification exam Tuesday, with morning sickness and all!

Miss Anything?  I miss not feeling so bad all the time.  Although I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world right now.

Movement:  Not for a long while I imagine.

Food cravings:  This is going to be disgusting, but McDonald’s cheeseburgers.  I hate McDonald’s.  But we were in a hurry the other day and I needed to eat something, and I swear it was the most delicious cheeseburger I had ever eaten.  This disturbs me.

Anything making you queasy or sick:  They are redoing the floors at work {pulling up carpet and laying down hardwood floor lamanent} and the smell of the glue made me incredibly sick Monday.  I threw up for the first time with this pregnancy at work that day.  Three times.

That weird mucus-y discharge is new.  And I think I might be having some round ligament pain already, although I think its a little early for that.  But the pain goes down into my groin area on my right side, right in the crease of my upper thigh.  I don’t know what else it could be.

Belly Button in or out?  In.  I have a pretty chunky belly, so I imagine it’ll stay.

Wedding rings on or off?  Off, but not because they don’t fit.  I don’t wear them to work because of wearing gloves and washing my hands all day and taking them off and on all the time.  It’s just easier to keep them at home so they don’t get lost.  So, on, but on the weekends. :)

Happy or Moody most of the time:  I am happy, mostly.  I get cranky and moody at work because I’m tired and don’t feel good.

Looking forward to:  Our next ultrasound on the 3rd!  And a long 3 day weekend!

Ok, here’s a couple more old wives’ tale gender predictions… First, we’re looking to the Mayans for help!

Mayan Gender Prediction — The Mayans also had a method of determining gender.  According to them, if the mother’s age at conception and the year of conception are both even or odd, then the baby will be a girl.  If they are opposites, then the baby is a boy.  My age at conception was 29 and the year was 2013, so the Mayans say that Baby Nugget is a little GIRL! Maybe the Mayans are better at predicting gender than predicting the end of the world?

Next up….has your skin been dry??
Pass the LotionIf a pregnant woman’s hands are dry, then she is carrying a boy.  My hands have been INCREDIBLY dry!!! So dry that I’ve got patches of raw skin on a couple of my knuckles from scratching so much.  I’ve never had this much dry skin in my life.  Old Wives say Baby Nugget is a BOY!
So far, this is what the Old Wives have tallied up:
2 votes GIRL
1 vote BOY

6w4d

That’s what the ultrasound said on Monday when we went to the RE’s office for our first scan.  I was incredibly nervous and terrified about what we might find at this visit.  Fortunately, all we saw was a beautiful little blob measuring 6w4d with a thump-thump-thumping heartbeat of 120bpm. {Side note: This number worried me a little, I felt it might be a little low. But Dr. P said everything looked good to him, so I’m forcing negative thoughts away and believing in the power of positive thinking…at least I’m trying!}

Here’s one of the first photos of our little nugget:

Beautiful, isn’t it? 🙂

That puts me at 7 weeks exactly today.  Dr. P wants to see us back next week for another scan to make sure everything is coming along.  So far, the lovenox is doing what it’s supposed to.  Our appointment is on Wednesday, which will put us at 7w6d.  I’m anxious to get through next week.  8w1d is the hurdle I need to get past.  I know I’ll still have a long way to go after that, but it’s like this looming hill that is taking me forever to get to the top of.  It falls on next Friday.  Which is weird, because last time it was also on a Friday.  That dreadful, horrible Friday.  I just need to fast forward.  In the meantime, I’m gonna try not to dwell on the fact that I can’t move time, nor can I change the future, whatever may happen in it.

In other news, morning sickness is now in FULL SWING!  It hit on Sunday and it hit hard.  And it’s all day everyday.  Our two hour car ride to the RE’s office on Monday was HORRIBLE.  Hubby had to pull over a few times.  I’m not throwing up at all, but the nausea stops me dead in my tracks.  Between that and being so extremely exhausted I literally feel like I have the flu.  Dr. P was thrilled to hear that I felt like crap, though! 😉  That’s a good sign, so I am happy to have it, nausea and all.

The morning sickness has made it difficult at work.  Like I’ve said before, I have a pretty physical job.  And our clinic is very busy and fast paced.  And its been hard to keep up the way I’m used to.  My body just can’t go at the rate that I’m used to going.  And its hard to hide from all my coworkers how terrible I’m actually feeling. I’m really not ready to go public yet, but at this rate it may be best for me {and nugget!} to make an announcement soon.  At work at least.  Plus, my supervisor informed me this week that she was going to have to let the doctors and other managers know pretty soon whether I tell everyone else or not.  The more people that find out, the more likely it is to leak.  And I’d rather tell people my own way.  I’m still not touching facebook with a ten foot pole.

As far as family goes, Hubby wanted to tell our parents after our ultrasound appointment Monday.  I’m still skiddish about it.  But he really really wanted to tell someone.  He argued that I got to tell my friend, M, and my boss at work {which I argued didn’t count} and he hadn’t got to tell anyone yet.  I felt bad.  He’s so excited.  And I know he’s scared to, but its too cute how anxious he is to brag about our little secret.  So I gave in and said we could tell our parents.  We still aren’t telling the rest of our families, though.  And so far, we’ve only told his mom and dad.  We’ll probably get around to telling my parents this weekend.

I guess that’s all for now!  I’ll try to be better at updating more, but between the nausea and exhaustion I can’t make any promises 😉
