Baby Nugget – 1 Month

My sweet baby, Mason, you are ONE MONTH OLD!

My Little Monster!

My Little Monster!

This month has been both the fastest and longest month.  It seems like only yesterday, Daddy and I were headed to the hospital and Mommy was having a panic attack in the car on the way. 😉  And at the same time, it seems like you have been part of our family for much longer than a month.  We are so blessed that you are ours!

What are your stats and what does the doctor say?

We saw Dr. Chris earlier this week for your first “sick” visit (you had a cough that mommy was worried about).  Everything checked out great!  At that appointment you weighed 9lbs 3oz!  You have grown so much in such a short amount of time.

What are you eating?

You have been on Enfamil Newborn from the start.  You tolerate it very well and we haven’t had any trouble with reflux or spitting up at all.  You do get VERY gassy though, and mommy hates when your belly hurts.  You love your gas drops though, and they do seem to help some.  You are eating 3.5oz bottles every 2.5-3 hours during the day and every 3-4(ish) hours at night.

When do you eat and sleep?

I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a rough go at it, kid. But you are doing much better (some nights)!  We usually have you ready for bed by your 9-9:30 feeding, depending on how the day has gone. Mommy gets you washed and lotioned up then we make sure your nose is clean. After your bottle we get you into a clean diaper then swaddle you up in your sleep sack. Daddy usually rocks you and reads to you in the glider, and you’re usually being put down in your bassinet by 10:30 or so. Depending on the night you might sleep until 1 or 1:30. After another bottle you go back down until 4:30(ish). You usually wake up around 7:30 or 8  ready to eat again. After this bottle sometimes we get up for the day, sometimes we go back to bed for a little while longer.  Once we’re up you take a bottle about every 3 hours. This is all based on a good night. There are some nights where you are up every 3 hours wanting a bottle. There are some nights where you won’t lie in your bassinet for longer than 30 minutes before we have to get you up and soothe you back to sleep, only to repeat again. If mommy is particularly at her wit’s end, you might end up in the bed with us like you did night before last.

What do your routines look like?

Right now, your routines are based on eating and sleeping.  During the day, you like to take your naps in your Rock n Play.  We’ve found that you nap much better during the day if we lightly swaddle you. When you’re awake we sometimes play on your playmat and have some tummy time. You like to snuggle with mommy and daddy whenever you can until its bedtime.

What size clothes and diapers are you wearing?

You are still wearing mostly Newborn clothes, although you have outgrown a few of your sleepers. You do have a few 0-3 months onsies that you wear also. You are wearing size 1 diapers. They are a little big on you but the NB Luvs are a bit snug and those are the brand we’ve decided to stick with. NB Huggies still fit you fine, but at the rate you’re growing we’ve decided not to buy anymore NB sizes.

What are some things you love?

You love your gas drops.  They smell sweet and I bet they taste sweet too! Plus they make your tummy feel better. You love riding in the car.  You love to snuggle,  especially when you’re sleepy. We aren’t sure if you love bath time yet or not. You don’t cry, but you’ve always got a confused look on your face. You go right to sleep after a warm bath though, that is for sure!

What are some things you don’t love?

You do not like to have your clothes changed. You don’t like to wait for your bottle. You hate to have your nose cleaned. You definitely do not like when you have gas in your belly, and mommy doesn’t like it either.

What can you do?

You are only a month old — so basically you eat and sleep. But you like to hold your head up like a big boy! You can also smile sometimes, and it might not even be on accident!

Who has visited and watched you?

You have met most all of your close family. Lots of mommy’s friends have come to meet you too. No one has watched you yet, and mommy is dreading when someone has to.

What are some of your nicknames?

Daddy likes to call you Benjamin Button because he says you look like a little old man.  Mommy calls you baby.

What are we looking forward to in the next month?

Before you turn two months:  You will celebrate your first Valentine’s Day. You will spend a few days with your future sitters so they will know your routines when mommy goes back to work. You will spend your first evening away from mommy and daddy when we go to a concert at the end of the month.

It’s been a crazy first month baby! As much as I’d love for you to stay tiny,  I’m looking forward to watching you grow!
